Last night the Muslim festival of breaking the fast started and our PhD students from Pakistan wanted to celebrate together with you their “Eid-ul-fitr” festival, in Germany known as “Zuckerfestival”. This officially ends the holy month of Ramadan and is actually celebrated the following three days together with family and friends in the whole Muslimic world.
This is an occasion of fun and recreation. At this occasion, people prepare traditional meals for Eid gatherings with friends and family. Every person above the poverty line is supposed to donate some money to poor people. People wear new traditional clothes; especially women ornament themselves with jewelry and apply different patterns and the latest designs of Henna on their hands and feet. Muslims visit relatives and give presents or money (Eidee) to children. Special Eid cards are also sent, to loved ones living far apart with warm wishes and heartiest greetings. The most common way of greeting each other is to say “Eid Mubarak” (Blessed Eid)!
